As a collector of forged bowie knives for well over a decade, I have examined literally hundreds of fine pieces from makers all over the world and in my experience, very few of these are as well made as a knife from Russ Andrews. Russ’ painstakingly precise blade grinding and finishing is truly a sight to behold and indicative of his years of experience as a knifemaker as well as a serious student of the art. I have had the privilege of knowing Russ for several years and owning many examples of his work. What sets his blades apart are a level of fit and finish that few ever attain. If you have ever taken one of his carbon steel blades in hand and observed the soft, almost luminescent glow of his hand-rubbed satin finish, you will undoubtedly have realized that you were holding something very special indeed. Superb finish would be less meaningful if it were applied to blades that lacked the flowing lines, sound proportions and aesthetic excellence of Russ' designs. Most significant of all, however, is that the integrity of his blades is surpassed only by the integrity of the man himself. Over two decades as an active collector and custom knife enthusiast has engendered a high degree of selectivity on my part. A few years ago I started to notice Russ' knives. They had an immediately recognizable look to them. Top flight fit and finish, and a flow and balance to the designs that left no doubt as to who it was that made them. It was only a matter of time before I contacted Russ about making one for me.
